Canadian music publishers connect globally at IMPF’s Palma summit, expanding trade opportunities

Canadian music publishers and Music Publishers Canada staff attended the Global Music Entrepreneurial and Creative Industry Summit, hosted by the Independent Music Publishers Forum (IMPF), in Palma, Mallorca from October 1-4, 2024. As an essential event for independent music publishers, songwriters, and industry stakeholders, the Palma Summit offered a packed agenda of presentations, panels, and networking designed to foster meaningful connections and business development. For Canada’s music publishers, 81% of revenue comes from foreign markets through exports of Canadian songs.

MPC member Golnar Khosrowshahi (CEO & Founder of Reservoir Media) gave the opening keynote on October 2. MPC’s Senior Manager Kim Temple participated on a panel called “The Benefits of Hiring More Diversely and How to Do It” where she talked about MPC initiatives and programs including Women in the Studio, NXTGen, Future of Work, and a report on Indigenous Protocols.

During the Summit, IMPF also hosted a song camp, which ran from September 29 to October 03. MPC was happy to see our Women in the Studio producer Ocevnside Clvb be selected for this highly competitive camp with writers, artists, and producers from all over the world. MPC members Red Brick Songs, PEN Music Group, and Downtown Music Publishing also sent writers and producers to the camp, continuing to expand trade and growth opportunities for their small businesses.

MPC would like to thank Global Affairs and the Government of Canada for their support. Events like Palma Summit bring the world's independent publishing community together, playing a pivotal role in facilitating sub-publishing and administration deals across international markets.
