New export potential at CREATE Miami

Music Publishers Canada (MPC) organized a CREATE trade mission to Miami, Florida, from October 30 to November 3, 2024. The CREATE program — a music publishing export initiative that connects music publishers, and the songwriters they invest in, with key business and creative contacts in global markets — was organized for 18 delegates including MPC’s music publisher members (featuring NXTGen publishers) and representatives from SOCAN, Association of Independent Music Publishers (AIMP), and the International Music Publishers Independent Forum (IMPF). MPC was especially pleased to welcome a participant of the Ontario Creates AcceleratiON program, Women in the Studio producer, Terez, and Andre Galuban (Create Industries Trade Commissioner/Head of Music with the Consulate General of Canada in Los Angeles). Delegates of the b2b mission learned about the recent growth in the Miami music market and explored ways to do business in the region as well as in Latin America.

The mission also included the AIMP Miami Music Publishing Summit with Music Publishers Canada, in partnership with the AIMP and the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. MPC CEO Margaret McGuffin was featured on a panel entitled “Legal and Rights Management in the Era of AI”, and moderated the panel “How Does A Publisher Fit In Your Team?”

The b2b mission began on Wednesday, October 30 with a mixer sponsored by SOCAN and continued with two days of panels and networking events. Thank you to the Miami Chapter of MMF-US for hosting a Friday afternoon networking mixer at Tik Tok with the Miami management community, featuring an interview between Latin superstar Mariah Angeliq and MMF-US Miami Chapter chair Matthew Limones.

MPC would like to thank FACTOR and the Government of Canada for supporting this trade mission. MPC would also like to thank SOCAN, TikTok, MMF-US, and Beam Suntory for supporting our programming in Miami.
