Women in the Studio August Residency

From August 22 - 29, Music Publishers Canada (MPC) hosted its 6th Women in the Studio cohort in Toronto for the annual in-person programming residency, where producers participated in networking events, one-on-one mentoring, and skills training.

The Music Publishers Canada 2024 Women in the Studio Accelerator producers are:

  • Alysha Brilla - Toronto, ON

  • Cat Hiltz - Vancouver, BC

  • Charmie - Toronto, ON

  • Jinting (Jinting Zhao) - Edmonton, AB

  • JoJo Worthington - Montreal, QC

  • Samantha Selci - Toronto, ON.

Biographies for all 2024 participants are available here.

Thank you to Yamaha Canada Music who provided equipment at the residence so that the producers could collaborate and write with each other while they were in Toronto.

During the week, MPC partnered with Honey Jam for an education session on music publishing and an interview with Nashville based producer Karen Kosowski. MPC also partnered with Songwriters Association of Canada (SAC) for an event featuring Dr. Amandine Pras who spoke on “Immersive Audio Innovation For All”. This was open to SAC and MPC members, MPC NXTGen publishers, and Honey Jam and Women in the Studio alumni.

Thank you to Kilometre Music, Sony Music Publishing Canada, and Warner Chappell Music Publishing Canada for hosting us during the week.

Thank you to mentors Dr. Amandine Pras, Samantha Pickard of Strut Entertainment, Karen Kosowski, Vivian Barclay, Liz Rodriguez, Chris Kim, Eli Brown, Mido, TJ Whitelaw, Max Rothschild of Stohn Hay Cafazzo Dembroski Richmond LLP, Lord Quest from SOCAN, Ricardo Chung from Warner-Chappell Canada, Hill Kourkoutis, and Annelise Noronha for helping to build out this valuable programming for the producers.

Women in the Studio programming will continue virtually until January.

Dedicated to fostering positive change within the music industry, the Women in the Studio National Accelerator is presented by Music Publishers Canada, and generously supported by RBC Foundation, FACTOR/Government of Canada, and Ontario Creates. Music Publishers Canada would also like to thank sponsors Cassels and Compass Rose.
