Music Publishers Canada takes Export and Songwriting Virtual!

Music Publishers Canada (MPC) & Australian Music Publishers Association Limited (AMPAL) are pleased to have collaborated on CREATE Australasia Canada Song Camp, an initiative to showcase Canadian and Australasian songwriting and production talent through a Virtual Writing Camp.

The Create Australasia Canada Song Camp took place from March 7-9, 2022, and featured 40 songwriters and producers from Canada and Australasia in virtual writing rooms in which artists, producers and songwriters wrote original songs together in the pop and singer-songwriter genres.

The MPC Board also met on March 9 with the AMPAL board, virtually, to learn about the two markets and explore how the two associations and their members can work together in the future.

As documented in the MPC “Export Ready, Export Critical” study, the export of Canadian songs and scores is driving growth for Canadian music publishers and is increasingly necessary in order to remain competitive in the international market.  MPC and its members want to make sure Canadian songs are heard around the world.

Over the course of the past two years, MPC has continually sought out new and exciting opportunities to take export to the virtual marketplace. Our popular B2B initiative, Meet the Music Supervisors,  is a networking series that includes panels and networking opportunities with music supervisors working in key territories, and in a number of spaces including film and television, branding and advertising. MPC has hosted 14 virtual panels and 629 1:1 B2B meetings with music supervisors from the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and Latin America as part of the Meet the Music Supervisors series.

The success of these initiatives is a testament not only to the adaptability of music publishers and their songwriting partners to the virtual business environment, but also to the partnerships MPC has developed with Global Affairs Canada and the Trade Commissioner Service, as well as the Embassy of Canada in Mexico,  the High Commission of Canada in the United Kingdom, the Canadian Consulates in New York and Los Angeles and the Embassy of Canada in Germany.

MPC would also like to thank FACTOR and the Government of Canada for their support of both Meet the Music Supervisors and CREATE.
