Music Publishers Canada welcomes much needed investment in Canada Music Fund
Music Publishers Canada thanks the federal government for investing in Canada’s music publishers and their songwriting partners and ensuring that Canada’s music publishing industry remains globally competitive.
Canadian Heritage Minister Pascale St-Onge announced today that the government will top up the Canada Music Fund to support FACTOR and Musicaction by $16 million per year. With declining revenues from traditional sources such as radio, the Canada Music Fund is a key part of FACTOR and Musicaction’s ground-breaking investments in competitive music projects and companies.
“This funding is a good start in providing the Canadian music industry with the resources to continue to support the songs we hear daily on streaming services, in video games, movies and television shows. Canada’s music publishers are thankful to have the opportunity to continue to invest in Canadian songwriters,” said Margaret McGuffin, Music Publishers Canada CEO.
This important investment will help ensure that Canadian jobs are protected and programs to help grow the sector at home and export abroad can continue.
“Providing financial support and developing the necessary policies that leverage investments in artists and songwriters is integral to the growth of our economy,” McGuffin said. “We are pleased to see the government stand up for Canada’s creative industries.”
