Women in the Studio: Canadian Music Publishers Association launches career development program for women in music technology
TORONTO, March 8, 2019—The Canadian Music Publishers Association is excited to announce the inaugural cohort of its innovative and one-of-a-kind mentorship program, Women in the Studio. Five producer-songwriters have been selected to take part in Women in the Studio, a series of curated events and experiences from March 2019 to December 2019, including a master class with world-renowned producer/songwriter Linda Perry.
Those selected for the program include: Alexandra Petkovski AKA FJØRA (Toronto, ON), Denise De’ion (Toronto, ON), Francesca Nocera AKA Sun Sun (Toronto, ON), Lisa Patterson (Toronto, ON), and Myya Lal (Mississauga, ON)
“We know that women-identifying songwriters and producers have less opportunities in the music business than their male counterparts and often face significant challenges to achieving success. We’re proud to be launching this inaugural program to help women in the industry at an important time,” said Canadian Music Publishers Association executive director Margaret McGuffin.
The Women in the Studio program is designed to provide the cohort with opportunities for skills development and networking opportunities that they would otherwise be unable to access. Participants will have access to mentors for the duration of the program to learn about career and technical skills development.
The program will be officially launched on March 16 during JUNO festivities in London, ON. During Canadian Music Week (CMW), the cohort will experience a full day of programming at Revolution Recordings. This will include one-on-one time in the studio with Perry, a Grammy nominee known for her work in the band 4 Non-Blondes, and the songs Get the Party Started (P!nk), and Beautiful (Christina Aguilera).
Women in the Studio is made possible through support from Ontario Creates and RBC Royal Bank.
